Title: Approximation
numbers and compactness
Abstract: Approximation numbers measure the closeness by which a bounded linear map may be approximated by similar maps but with finite dimensional range. In this talk we consider spaces with a certain approximation scheme and define approximation and Kolmogorov numbers with respect to this scheme. An example of a bounded linear map which is compact with respect to the given scheme, but not compact in the usual sense will be discussed.
